The downside of winter (and some icicles!)

Winter 'looked good' for about three days. Then the pretty white snow transformed into yellowish slippery goo set out to make my life a living HELL. Trust me, I love winter as much as the next gal, but almost breaking one or several limbs everytime I have to go outside looses its charm after about a week...

So I was just about to give up on winter all together, when I found THIS in my back garden:

How cool is that?!?! :D

ICICLES PEOPLE! LOADS OF THEM!!! :D

So even though I'd still like to see the yellow goo leave sooner rather than later...

... I spent the rest of the afternoon under our staircase taking pictures of the icicles anyways :)

The upside of winter

We rarely have a good pack of proper snow here in my little part of the world, so when we woke up this morning finding the already rare layer of snow had doubled in the course of the night, an expedition to The Wild was quickly planned!

It was still early so we had the pleasure of planting our footprints in the fresh, untouched snow.

The streets were empty...

... and so was the Wild!

There were only snowy pathways...

... and the footprints of deer :)

And despite public transportation is seriously disordered, traffic is a disaster and it's oh-so-cold...

... winter at least looks good :)

Oh dear...

I've been such a bad blogger! Not a single post since December 6th! Shame on me!!

So here's 5 things I've been up to these past few weeks that didn't involve me WORKING MY ASS OFF... ;)

1. I got snowed in (kind of)

2. I huddled in front of our heater with cups of tea and a book!

3. I admired my brand new iPhone 4...

4. ... and played Fruit Ninja till I went bananas :)

5. And last but not least: I changed this sorry excuse for a tree...

... into this:

Let the holidays begin!!! :D

Coldness!!

Yes, my friends... Winter has arrived! :)

Despite my three pairs of socks, snowboots, knitted beanie, thick scarf and mittens, I was STILL freezing as I ventured into The Wild this morning! And there wasn't even real snow yet :)

So coldness? YES! But oh how pretty it was as well :)

I even found some beautiful colours!

And a deer found me :)

Spot the deer! :)

(For a moment I kind of wished I had a telephoto lens so you could actually SEE the deer... Then I remembered I love Where's Waldo - so it's all good :)

I ♥ doodles!

If there's one book that makes me wonder why I don't draw/doodle/colour anymore...

... it's this one!

Sure, you could buy it for your kids.

But better yet.....

... BUY IT FOR YOURSELF!!!

Because seriously...

... why should the kids get all the fun?!

An Idiot Abroad

As winter is slowly but surely settling in, I’m still in movie-mode, devouring everything that moves :)

Last seen: An Idiot Abroad, a television series in which Ricky Gervais and Steven Merchant send their friend Karl Pilkington to the seven wonders of the world… and even though most people would be absolutely delighted to travel the world, Karl is not impressed and very uncomfortable – and it’s absolutely hilarious.

I’m telling you: I'm joining the Karl Pilkington-fanclub!! ;) And for those who do not know Karl Pilkington: here are four more clips to introduce you to him :)

1. An introduction...

2. The best comeback :)

3. On monkeys and infinity

4. And last but not least: Karl meets Warwick Davis!!!

"Hang on a minute! Who put you in goal?!?!?!"

Instant classic.

Welcome to Geekville!

People, every movie that starts off like this...

... is bound to be AWESOME!!!

The second I saw the trailer for Scott Pilgrim vs. the World my little geek-heart skipped a beat!

I mean: seriously. Game references, comic book fonts AND lightsabers in the same movie?

*DROOL*

So I finally got a chance to see it and I’m happy to say: it rules. No disappointments caused by high hopes and insane expectations. Just one of the COOLEST flicks of the year.

So go check it out. Visit Geekville. And enjoy your stay! :)

Autumn fail

Considering the fact autumn so far has been a complete letdown compared to last year, with the past few weeks being grey and rainy and dull, I decided to start my Sunday with a little trip into The Wild.

The good news: no rain! :)

The bad news: a LOT of mud...

... and most of the beautiful leafs already on the ground or well on their way... :(

Luckily for me there was still a bit of sunshine...

... some wildlife...

... and a few pretty colours left!

Dear people of the Earth!

I am BACK! :)

After a very hectic month the weather caught up with me, and I spent the last week in bed with the most terrible cold! I swear there was snot coming out of my ear at some point, but I’ll spare you any further details…

There is one upside to your body reinventing itself as a mucus carrying-vessel: the only thing you can do is lay very still, and watch stuff on TV. LOTS of stuff. In only a few days I’ve managed to watch True Blood Season Two (12 episodes, 60 minutes each), The Young Victoria, Get Him to the Greek, Cop Out, The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas, Babies and A LOT of Animal Planet

But honestly, I would have been just as happy watching a certain movie over and over again, a movie that’s without a doubt one of my favourite movies of all time, the one I watch every time I’m sick or sad or for any other random reason: Pride and Prejudice!!

Don’t know what it is about this one, but I could watch it a hundred times and not get bored!! Enjoy the wonderful opening sequence – and the rest of the movie (!!!) – here on Youtube!!!

Last seen: Ponyo!

Nothing cheers me up more than a Hayao Miyazaki-movie! Last seen: Ponyo. About a little fish who wants to be a human :)

And you know what's even cuter than that? The theme song ;)

Last seen: Grey's Anatomy

It's one of my all-time favorite guilty pleasures: watching Grey's Anatomy!! I've spent the past few months rewatching (!) all six seasons (!!). And you know what the saddest part is? I like this show so much, I could just go back to season one and start all over again...

Seriously?! Seriously.

Keep Calm and Carry On

The past few weeks I’ve felt happy, sad, annoyed, content, nervous, scared, tired, playful, on edge, insecure, weak, strong, invincible and pissed off.

Yes. It was quite a month :)

Now, for those who do not know me: I’m not a very calm person at the best of times. Hell, I’m still a bit surprised I managed to survive myself these past few weeks!

My secret? I finished my Clear Blue Scarf! :)

Nothing like a bit of knitting to bring some Zen to a busy day :)

Now that I'm done, I should really find a new project. Quickly :)

A Year and a Day of Crafting :)

No, I’ve not been busy celebrating new found fortune I’m afraid. The Universe pointed me in the direction of option number 2: working my ass off! :)

I was in fact so busy, I almost forgot this week is my One Year Of Crafting-anniversary!

One year ago this week, I decided I wanted to learn something new. I wanted to learn how to knit!! Me & knitting was not the best combination however, but it did lead me to discovering crochet.

And twelve months later...

One Year of Crafting!

... I'm still crafting! :)

Hello Earthlings!

Excuse my lack of posting - I've been busy... How busy you ask? Well, let's just say: when you try to unlock your home door with your job’s entry pass instead of your keys, you need a vacation…

Unfortunately for me, I don’t have time for a vacation! I’ve been so busy with work and taking care of sick pets I’ve hardly had time for anything else. And since things aren’t going to slow down any time soon, I might as well accept it: there's just not enough time to have it all!

There is however time for winning LOADS OF MONEY!!! :D Today is the 10th of October of 2010 - the 10th day of the 10th month of the 10th year - and the national lottery assures me it's my lucky day!

Now, before you’ll go all sceptical on me, let’s skip to the fun stuff: here’s my Ten Things I’ll Do With The Millions I’ll Win On The 10th of October 2010-list!! :D

1. I will dance in the street
2. I will buy pretty dresses and wear them all the time!
3. I will buy a cottage for my parents
4. I will drink Kiki-cappuccino at the Ghibli Museum in Japan
5. I will tweet about it on my new iPhone
6. I will fill my whole house with flowers!
7. I will open a craft-shop
8. I will design my own house
9. I will buy an R2-D2 trashcan and a 101 other things from ThinkGeek.com!

And last but not least...

10. I will have TIME to do it all. Hell, I'll even have time for that vacation :)

Colorburst

I'll leave you with these beautiful flowers! If the lack of posting continues the upcoming days, I'll either be working my ass off or celebrating new found fortune :)

Let's hope for my sake it will be the latter ;)

Welcome to my gallery!

Woohoo! I finally did it! I opened a gallery!!! :D

On Flickr that is :) First subject: plushies! Although they're more like little sculptures made of felt, fabric and yarn. Want to see the ones I picked? You can check them out here!

Why my Monday sucked…

… more than usual ;)

1. It’s raining (AGAIN!)

2. My pet rat needs an operation :(

3. I was so busy at work I started a hundred chores but finished none…

4. I want to lie down on the couch eating chocolate but instead I have to bike through the rain and work out at the gym………

And last but not least:

5. I walked around at work with INK on my face!

(...)

A few things that make it a bit better though:

1. I’m watching the first Dexter-episode of season 5 tonight!

2. My felt and fabric bunny is featured on Undane.co.uk!

3. It's almost Tuesday

(…)

Um… Yeah. Well. That’s it really – can’t think of anything else.

Damn you, Monday!!!

WIP: a clear blue scarf :)

Because the weather has been dreadful lately, and because the days are getting shorter, and colder, and because I need some color and warmth in the winter that is to come…

… I’m knitting a scarf!

To be continued! :)

Q. What's more fun than Etsy?

A. Regretsy! :D

One of my colleagues forwarded me the most amazing site today. The name and slogan alone are enough to make my day:

Regretsy: where DIY meets WTF.

The whole concept is so simply brilliant I wish I had thought of it myself: it describes itself as 'the fail blog of hand crafts' and features all kinds of insane items people actually dare to ask money for on Etsy.com. Because even though Etsy is home to some of the prettiest handmade stuff out there, it's apparently also a Magnet for the Weird...

Here are five random things I stumbled upon:

1. A modest little scarf...

2. A very striking (?!) portrait of Zach Braff...

3. A 'beautifully' 'crafted' bracelet...

4. A totally unreadable embroidery piece - yours for only $225!! (WTF?!)

5. Kawaii glasses...

Wait - I actually like that last one :D

Want to be amazed? Check out more crazy items on Regretsy.com!
